Are you looking for ways to keep your student(s) learning during the extended school closures due to the COVID-19 outbreak? For the duration of these closures, Michigan Virtual will be offering the content of over 70 of our high-quality online courses FREE to educators and parents as a resource to supplement student learning.
This course content includes all digital lessons; however, it does not include assessments and is non-credit bearing. It is intended to provide educators and parents with enrichment materials they can use to keep students engaged and learning during school closures.

3 heart(s) Loading...Mi-STAR is a curriculum for the middle grades that is designed for MSS and NGSS. The units meet the NGSS call that students learn disciplinary content and crosscutting concepts through science and engineering practices and develops student mastery of all 59 PE’s of NGSS.
The curriculum was developed by classroom teachers who worked with professional scientists, engineers, and curriculum developers to produce an entirely new curriculum that is fully aligned with the recommendations articulated by the National Academies and National Research Council in the Framework for K-12 Science Education.
Teachers need to attend training before implementation.

Each lesson starts by posing a question commonly asked by kids, like "Do plants eat dirt?" or "Why are so many toys made out of plastic?" A series of short videos and prompts then guides a class discussion, followed by an experiment that can be done as a class. Lessons cover a wide range of topics, including light and sound, biodiversity, engineering, and the water cycle. Mystery Science encourages teacher collaboration with the capability to pin, tweet, or share units using various social media platforms.
